Tutors
Can I hire a tutor rather than sending my kid to school?
Yes. You can hire a tutor with an appropriate credential who will then follow CA state law listed here.
OR, you could choose one of the other legal options to homeschool, enroll your child in that option, then hire
any tutor, with or without a credential, to tutor individual subjects.
Tutors can often be found online or through after school tutoring services such as Kumon, or you could try

My child wants to work in the entertainment industry. Do we have to homeschool?

Where can I find help for my special education student or help with an IEP?
Students who are privately homeschooling must make arrangements for their own special ed services, and often
need to pay for those out of their own pocket. Check with your local support group to find parents who can recommend specific services.
If your public school is not providing the services you need for your special education student, there are many resources,
including attorneys, that may be able to help. Here is a short list recommended by local parents:

Immigration Resources
Can my child attend school if we are not US citizens?
If you are in the US on a Visa, see the next question. If you are not on a Visa, a US Supreme Court case in 1982 confirmed that undocumented
children have the right to attend public school. This case can be found here: Plyler v. Doe (1982).
In California children between the ages of 6 and 18 must be enrolled in school. If you do not want to enroll your child
in a traditional public school, there are several legal alternatives listed here on the SBHN web site.
Can my child attend school if we are here on a Visa?
This depends on the type of Visa you have. A table of dependent child Visa statuses can be found at Immigration Road
If I am a migrant worker, can my child go to school?
Yes. California offers special resources and services for migrant workers in certain industries such as agriculture.
